Film Review: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

As an A Level film studies student it is my duty to watch a lot of films! My friends and teachers at college have written a long list of films (approximately 120 films) that I need to watch.

My Film Studies teacher, Alex said that I had to watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, he then said I had to go back and tell him if I thought the ending was happy ending or not, so I thought that I would write a blogpost about this.

Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind is about 2 people who are in a relationship, unfortunately they break up and the girl, Clementine (played by Kate Winslet), goes through this procedure of forgetting her ex Joel (played by Jim Carrey). Joel finds out about this and also wants the memory loss procedure done. The films main storyline is Joel’s memory loss procedure and the memories that he has of Clementine.

I don’t want to spoil the ending for anyone, so I won’t, but in all honesty I don’t know how to feel about the ending. I feel like its bittersweet, however I don’t personally feel that they will remain together because they both went through this procedure.

This film has a beautiful story line of the relationship of Clementine and Joel. In my opinion the cast was incredible, the chemistry the both Carrey and Winslet had together was just perfect. Having predominately dark lighting gave it that more mysterious feel which really went well with the film.

Overall, I 100% recommend this film to watch. It really makes you think about all the relationships you have been in and it also makes you think that us humans need the bad relationships to show us the good ones.

If you watch this film let me know what you think of the ending.
