Belgium Bucket List

Tomorrow I leave to go to Belgium with my Mum. I am so excited for a little holiday. We are going to be on holiday for a week, however are only going to be spending around 5 (possibly 6) days in Belgium as we are crossing over to the Netherlands for a day. I have been to Belgium before, however, it was a few years ago. I’m also going to be honest… I feel like I never actually went to Belgium at all. We kind of looked round one or two places but really I felt like I may as well have been in the UK. So, when Mum asked where I wanted to go, I thought Belgium would be nice AND I feel like we could actually go and see Belgium. I thought I would write a little Belgium Bucket List of things I would like to do.

The plan is, is that we are going to drive to Belgium, so this means that I can take as much or as little as I like! GENIUS! Also, we are going to try and do a few tourist spots, plus some of the World War I Memorials as I am a massive history nerd! I did do some of these things when I came before, however, I would like to do these things at my own pace and not have to rush around.

TEA TIME WITH CIARA - BELGIUM
This was taken on my last trip. All I can remember is that I took this in Belgium! I can’t remember where!

Bruges

There are some really lovely places in Bruges. It looks so beautiful. The images I have seen, kind of remind me a little of Amsterdam. My Mum has always wanted to go here, so it will be nice to experience it together. There are some lovely bits of architecture that I would love to go and take some pics of (plus have my pics in front of them!). There are also some churches I would like to visit that are just stunning. Like they look incredible. In Bruges there is also a chocolate museum. Now, as I have said a few times, I’m actually not a fan of chocolate, however, I would love to go to the Choco-Story Museum. You can learn how they make chocolate and I just am intrigued really!

Ghent

Ghent is a possibility. We are unsure if we will actually be able to make the time to visit here, but we are going to give it a go! Ghent is very similar to Bruges. Its similar because its apparently a pretty city on a canal (which is essentially what Bruges is!). I would love to try and explore some lovely areas, get some cute pics and just generally have a wander.

Ypres

This is the only place that I have actually been before. Here is where you can find a lot of the WWI memorial things, such as some of the trenches and lots of cemeteries. However, I would really like to explore some new places such as the Flanders Field Museum and I would love to go to the Menning Gate again. What’s really lovely is that every evening they play the Last Post and have a memorial service for those who have died from the wars. When I last went to this I did cry. It was so moving. Every soldier’s name is on this memorial and it was just so moving. It’s so important to go and pay our respects to those who gave up their lives to fight for us.

General Things

Belgium is known for their waffles and I love me a waffle, so this is no.1 on my list. Part of me also really wants to try a beer. I’m not really a beer person, however, I herd that Belgium is known for a good beer or two, so I may have a sip of my Mum’s!

Essentially, the point of this holiday is to have some time with my Mum. We may not get up to loads whilst we are in Belgium and tbh, we are treating this holiday very different to most. We don’t really have a plan. I think, we are just going to rock up to certain places and have a look, see what is around and then go somewhere else. Nothing is really set in stone, apart from our ferry!

I hope you enjoyed my Belgium Bucket List. If you have any recommendations that I need to add to my Belgium Bucket List PLEASE let me know! I would love to find places that I haven’t mentioned! If you enjoyed this post then you can check out other Bucket Lists that I have written here.
