This post is not sponsored. I was gifted tickets for myself, and a plus one, to see Calendar Girls: The Musical at the Pavilion in Bournemouth. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The other night I was invited out to go and see Calendar Girls the Musical with the Bournemouth Bloggers. I love musical theatre, so I knew this would be right up my street. The music from this musical was written by Gary Barlow, being a Take That fan, this was something that I had to see. Barlow’s music is always amazing, so I had high hopes for this performance.
Calendar Girls is based on a true story.
It’s about a Women’s Institute Group from Yorkshire who want to try and raise money for a new settee in the relatives lounge for a cancer clinic. It is such a touching subject, and I feel that many can relate to this story.
The acting in this was incredible. The amount of times that I cried was too much. I’m not normally that person who cries, but I couldn’t help it! It was just so moving. It’s also incredible to think that this was a true story! It really takes the musical out of theatre land and into a real life setting. However, saying that, there were so many moments where my Grandma and I giggled. I’m so glad that there were plenty of comic relief moments. It lifts the mood of the show, which you definitely need! The partial nudity was also hilarious and I have no idea how those women can be so confident to get up on stage and whip their clothes off in front of all of us! Incredible and I applaud them!
The music for this musical was lovely.
I think my favourite song was the opening song ‘One More Year in Yorkshire’. It’s the song that is still currently going around in my head now! I can’t seem to get it out! (Darn you Gary Barlow!)
You can tell the show was incredible, due to the fact that the whole theatre were up on their feet at the end for a standing ovation and it was definitely well deserved. The cast was incredible and I would thoroughly recommend this show to all! It was such a feel good show.
I had such a lovely evening and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Calendar Girls. Thank you so much to BHLive tickets and the Bournemouth Bloggers for having me.
