New Year Goals 2020

Happy New Year!

tea time with ciara - goals 2020

Yes I am well aware that we are like 2 weeks into the New Year and I’m only just uploading this. Well mainly its because I’ve only really come up with them after starting back at uni and secondly, I had an essay due on the 13th January and my main focus has been on that! Anyways…

I’m back starting the new year off with some goals for myself. For some reason, I don’t like calling them resolutions. So, I tend to stick with goal, as I feel like I can set an achievable goal using that word than I do with the word resolutions. So, without further a do…

here are my goals for 2020.

1. Only buying lunch at Uni once a week

So, the last two months of term at uni, I started purchasing a lot of food at university. I tended to buy lunches as it was easier and I didn’t have to worry about it. Yes, my life was easier by buying food, but my bank balance was not ok about it. AUB is quite good for food. They have the canteen and the shop which all sell different foods. However, it’s a lot more expensive than buying food from your average supermarket and making it at home to bring with you.

I mean, for a proper cooked dinner in the canteen, you are looking at a fiver for just the meal (which I am completely aware is cheaper than going out to a restaurant for dinner but still!). If you fancy a meal deal, at the shop it’s £3.99. It all adds up. I was ending up spending huge amounts of money on food cause I was lazy.

Well, no more! In 2020 (and hopefully for the rest of my time at uni), I will make my own food, but I will allow myself one day a week where I can purchase my lunch at uni.

2. Keep my desk clear

If you know me well, this was one from last year. Well, I failed last year. However, this year, for Christmas I had an iMac. So, I need space on my desk to put said iMac, so I’m going to have to clear my desk to make room for my new desktop computer.

3. See more films

Yep, this was also one from last year. I definitely did increase my film viewing in cinemas last year. However this year, my boyfriend and I have set ourselves a challenge. We plan to see 50 films in cinemas this year. Yep, that’s almost one film a week! This is such an increase in films for me at the cinema, but there are quite a few films coming out that I want to see, and because we both have an Odeon Limitless card, it means that it’s a cheap date night for us!

I’ve also kind of suggested to myself that I try and watch a film a day. Yep, that’s 365 films. Now, if this one doesn’t happen, I’m not going to kick myself, I am a realist, and the likelihood of this actually happening is not great! Especially because we are two weeks into January and I have watched a grand total of 7 films! So, I need to get a move on when it comes to this! If I can manage like 200+ films, I think that will be an achievement! If you want to keep up with the films that I’m watching and what I recommend then you should totally follow me on Letterboxd.

4. Save Money

I guess this relates to my first goal of 2020. In 2020 I want to save more money. At the end of 2018, I set up one of those ‘Help to Buy’ ISAs. I’m slowly starting to save up money, however, I want to try and save more. This is because a long-term goal of mine is to buy a place of my own, and I’m wanting to buy sooner rather than later.

5. Read More

I swear this is another one I pop in every year. It’s because every year, I don’t read enough. I used to be a non-stop reader. Now, we are lucky if I read 3 books a year. This is not good enough! My lecturers have recommended that we read 3 books a week! Now, I am a realist, and I know this is not going to happen, however, I would like to try and read 6 books this year. That means, one book every 2 months. Some new books were bought for me at Christmas and I have so many on my shelves to read! Hopefully, I would like to be able to read more books, but let’s start small. If you want to keep up with the amount of books I have read and what I think of them, you should totally follow me on GoodReads.

6. Make time for my Friends and Family

2019 was a weird one. I started the year with only one friend (who I saw regularly), however when I went to uni I ended up with a lot more friends AND a boyfriend with all of his friends, plus the friends that I previously had. What’s lovely about having all these people in your life is that they want to spend time with you. Going from a year where I had all the time in the world to see my friends that I didn’t have to this year where I have barely any time and so many friends who want to spend time with me. Please, don’t think I am complaining about this, because I’m not! The struggle that I have found, especially towards the end of last year, is the balance about who you spend your time with. I guess because it was new, I ended up spending all my free time with my boyfriend and his friends and neglected all of these great new friends and the friends who I already had here, that I had. Well, this year I am going to spread my time a lot more equally between these people (I mean the time that I have spare!). It’s going to be quite a difficult challenge, but I am up for it! I need to spend time with my own friends (and family) too!

I think that is it for my 2020 goals! There will probably be more goals that develop along the way, but for now, at the start of the year, these goals are what I have.
What are your goals for the new year? I’d love to know! Also, any film or book recommendations are much appreciated!
