Wonder | Film Review

On the way to LA I watched a number of films, but one that stuck in my mind was Wonder. This was such an eye opening film that made me cry. It was embarrassing when people came walking down the plane and there was me in floods of tears!

When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I knew it was one that I had to add to my list. I was so right to add it to the list because it was oh so good! I will try not to reveal too many spoilers incase you haven’t seen it, but you need to see it!

Wonder is about a boy named Auggie who was born with a deformed face. Auggie has had 27 surgeries over his short life to try and help him survive. The main plot line of the story is Auggie starting school for the first time. Auggie has been home schooled all of his life and his Mom thought it would be good if he went to school with other children. The story follows Auggie and how the children accept him at school and honestly it’s an eye opener. I get that bullying is a real thing and that it happens, but it’s just shocking that they could actually do this and that some of the parents encourage this behaviour.

Wonder has a really eye-opening storyline about children accepting other children, no matter what they look like. Auggie goes through ups and downs at school because of how he looks. However, all it takes is for one child to change everyone else’s opinions.

I thought that the film Wonder was just beautiful and I am annoyed that it wasn’t up there for the Oscars. Yes, it was up for best makeup, but I think it could have gone up for a few more as for me. In my opinion, it ticks those weird and wonderful Oscar requirements boxes.

I really loved the cinematography of the film and I thought this was done really well. In fact, I don’t think I have a singe fault for this film. I loved it! It is definitely going to be one of those films that I want to show my kids (when they are the appropriate age). I think it is important that children see this film as well as adults because it can teach everyone that people that are deformed or are disabled or anything like that are still beautiful people. Those people can still do incredible things. Their deformities and their disabilities do not define who they are and I think we need to recognise that.

Overall, Wonder ticks all the boxes for me, and I really hope that you do check it out. It has such an important message that needs to be heard!

This is not sponsored, nor was I asked to write a review. I saw the film on the plane and had to tell you all about it!
