I can’t believe it! Today is my last day of college. I am gutted that it is all over as I have had the best time. I mean, I still have exams, in a couple of weeks, so it’s technically not over till then. However, as I have my last lesson today, I am technically marking today as my final day at college. Still can’t believe that it is all over!
I started college back in September of 2016 on a whim. Back at the end of June 2016 I decided that I didn’t want to go to university to study History, so I pulled out. I decided that it wasn’t right for me. I felt that I was only going because that was what my old school said I should do. My old school thought university was right if you didn’t now what you wanted to do with your life. This is because you can then go and study a subject that you enjoy and then a job might float out over to you. Well, I (thankfully) worked out that I no longer enjoyed History. A-Level History kind of destroyed me emotionally. Anyway, once I decided that I was not going to university my Mum was on my case about what I was going to do with my life.
I spoke to my friends who are teachers about what I could do and they recommended me to have a go at this quiz. You basically have to pick images that speak out to you. After you have taken the quiz, the results of quiz shows you a massive diagram of different words of varying sizes, these tell you two different things: what A Levels to study and a range of different careers that would be suitable for you. When I completed the quiz, I was given a range of different career choices, that were so different to what I was going to do! They were all in the creative industry! One of them was to work in the film industry, and that is when I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to do film.
My teacher friends said that I could get on a foundation course at a local uni to study film production, however, I felt that to go from history at uni to film was a MASSIVE jump, so I was looking at other options. I was looking at different apprenticeships but all the good ones had gone. There was one that was a social media apprenticeship, essentially what this was that I would look run a companies social media account AND GET PAID FOR IT! I thought it was perfect, however, my Mum said, that how great this was and so up my street, however, I would get bored quickly and now that I look back, she was so right!
My Mum looked up A-Levels at the local college and said why not try going back and doing A-Levels. I was so against it to begin with. I hated A-Levels at school, so this was not something that I was interested. However, my Mum phoned the college and they said that they would accept me, but only if I joined that September because as soon as I turned 19, I was no longer eligible for A-Levels and then I would have to go to night classes. So, I decided that I would turn up to the late applicants interview that my Mum had arranged and I would give it a go. Because I was over 18 it meant that I could give up if I needed to as I didn’t need to be there. So, my backup was to drop out of college if I hated it.
So, when September came around, I went for my first day and made a friend really quickly. It turns out that this friend was not someone that I remained friends with for long, but I still made a friend on the first day. Anyway, I had the best first day at college, however, I was still concerned that I wasn’t going to enjoy it. Well, I could not have been more wrong! I started doing A-Level Film, Media, Photography and ICT. I loved each subject and carried on through with all 4 of them until the end of that academic year. The academic year ended and I got an A and 3 Bs. I also had made a really nice group of friends as well. BONUS!
I loved it so much, that I continued on with the second year and studied Film, Media and Photography. This year has been equally great, if not better than the year before. I have studied things that I love and I have also been to LA with my film class. That week was one of the best weeks of my life. I have also made some great friends along the way and have met many people that I am so thankful.
Whilst at college, I have had some incredible teachers. I am so thankful for everything that they have done in the last two years. I will never forget the effort and hardwork that they have put in with me. They have made this experience incredible. Also, a special thank you to the teachers who took me to LA. It was one of the best weeks of my life and a week that I will never forget.
I have had such a blast these last two years. I’m so sad that it is over. I kind of don’t want this to be over, but at the same time. I’m glad as I can continue with the next chapter in my life, but this one has been soooooo good! There are some really exciting things coming up and it’s all thanks to my time here at college.
