2018 and reading for me did not go well. In fact, it went so poorly that I didn’t actually finish a book. It’s something that I am not proud to admit. If you asked me why I didn’t read a book, I couldn’t even give you an answer. I guess, I just didn’t sink my teeth into a good enough book for me to want to finish it. As a child I used to love reading, and I am disappointed in myself for not reading a book last year. I think 2018 was the first year that I have not finished a book. But, 2018 will be the only year. I refuse to let another year go by without reading a book. So, I thought to get me in the spirit of reading, I would pick out 12 books that I want to read this year.
All that She Can See by Carrie Hope Fletcher
I have loved Carrie Hope Fletcher for as long as I can remember. I have been fortunate enough to see her in a couple of shows that she has been in (The Addams Family and Heathers) and I have also read a couple of her books in the past and I loved them. So, when looking on my book shelf and seeing that I have another Fletcher book, I knew that this was a must read.
When the Curtain Falls by Carrie Hope Fletcher
Yep, ok, another Carrie Hope Fletcher book. I loved her first novel so much that I knew I had to pick up her two other books! When I read her first novel ‘On the Other Side’ I could not put it down. I loved her style of writing, so I know that these two books will get me back into reading.
The Potion Diaries: Royal Tour by Amy Alward
Remember when Zoella did those book clubs, well in one of them was the Potion Diaries. I still loved Zoe when the book clubs were released, so I made sure that I bought all the books so I could read along with her. One of my favourite books from the book club was The Potion Diaries. Since then, Alward has written two other books. I have had the second one on my shelf for a couple years, so I think its about time I find out the rest of the story.
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
I remember this book being all over Instagram a couple summers back, and everyone said that this book was amazing. My Mum bought the book for me for Christmas and so I thought I would take up everyones advice and read this book. Also, the cover is really pretty (I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but I like it!).
Disney Twisted Tails by Liz Braswell
Technically this is a set of three. So technically this is three books. Essentially, this set is kind of a slightly different narrative to the wonderful Disney films that we all know and love. It slightly concerns me, but ever since I was bought them I knew that I needed to read them. I can’t believe it has taken me this long to read them. In the set there are three books, one based on Aladdin, one based on Sleeping Beauty and the final book based on Beauty and the Beast. I’m intrigued to see how one moment can change the story.
We Were Liars by E. Lockheart
This book has been on my shelf for a while. I’ve just left it there and always chose other books over it, well no more. 2019 is the year that I finally read this book.
Wilde Like Me by Louise Pentland
I have had this book on my shelf for a little while and I purchased it as it was recommended by a number of YouTubers who like books that are similar to my tastes. Also, I love Louise’s vlogs on YouTube so I had to support her book! A lot of people have said that the storyline is very similar to Pentland’s life, so I’m interested to see if I feel like the lives of the characters intertwine with Louise.
Eve of Man by Giovanna & Tom Fletcher
I don’t currently own this book, but I would like that to change pretty soon. Also, if you couldn’t tell, I love the whole Fletcher family as Tom Fletcher is Carrie Hope Fletcher’s brother! It’s a family affair! Anyways, when they announced this book last year, I remember being super excited about the concept and storyline and knew I wanted to read it. But, I kind of forgot completely about it until I started writing this post, so I have now put it on my list of books to buy.
Undercover Princess by Connie Glynn
Another book that I don’t own, but one that I want to add to the collection. I remember Connie a.k.a. Nooderella announced the Rosewood Chronicles Series of books and I remember being really excited about it. I thought it was enough fantasy to be a firm favourite of mine. Definitely have to get on and purchase this book soon.
Holding up the Universe by Jennifer Niven
I remember reading ‘All the Bright Places’ by Niven and loving it. I could not put it down, so when I was updating my to be read list on GoodReads, I saw this book was mentioned in my suggested reads. Reading the blurb definitely made me feel like this was a book that I should be reading. Now, I’ve just got to go out and purchase it.
The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
This author is another one that I love. I remember reading Everything Everything one summer and I could not put it down. It was so interesting and like nothing I had ever read before. So, I’m hoping that this book will also be just as good.
Are you there God? It’s Me Margaret by Judy Blume
Another one that I don’t currently own yet, but I am planning to purchase it on my kindle soon. Years ago when I was a little teenager, my Mum would talk about this book that she read as a child and ever since then, I’ve been meaning to read it. It’s apparently really funny and very relatable, so definitely on my to be read list.
There are so many more books that I want to read, but I’m trying to be realistic by only selecting a few. I really do want to try to read more this year. Hopefully my little goal of one a month will do (I mean, I didn’t read anything in January either, but we will skip past that). I have a few Any recommendations of books are always really appreciated. I love hearing wha other people like to read! Make sure to follow me on GoodReads to get up to date with my reading journey.
