This is my third post in my LA series. On the thirds day of my holiday we went to the Oscars. If you would like to check out more from the series then check them out here.
Sunday 4th March 2018
Well, this day was interesting. Firstly, I still have not got over the jet lag. I kept waking up every hour from about 1am. At 5:30, I just gave up! I went on my phone and then ended up talking to my Mum on the photo for ages.
A load of us decided to go out for breakfast as we had plenty if time before the bus was coming to collect us. We went to Jinky’s cafe, which was across the road from the hostel. I had what is called a Berry Happy Waffle which was yummy! I mean, it would have been nicer to have a white chocolate one, but unfortunately, that was not on the menu! So, I ended up going with a healthy(ish) one. After this, we headed to the local supermarket as people wanted to buy stuff!
We met everyone outside for 10:30 and headed towards the Oscars, but beforehand, we obviously went location spotting! We went to houses from a few locations such as the house and alleyway from Nightmare on Elm Street, the house from American History X and The Big Lebowski.
After stopping at these locations, we made our way to Hollywood Boulevard where the Oscars take place. We got quite close to the front of the pen we were in. It was pretty squished in their. We were stood for around 2 and a half hours with not much happening, FINALLY people started showing up, however, no big named celebs for us. I didn’t see anyone that I recognised on the carpet at all. I have a theory that they entered from the other direction as I could hear loads of people screaming and cheering, however none from our side! It was a tad disappointing not seeing anyone, however, it was an experience that I won’t forget and it is pretty awesome to say that I was there for the 90th Academy Awards.
We left the red carpet around 4pm as we had more film locations to spot. The first being another house from Nightmare on Elm Street. (Yeah, we visited a lot of houses whilst in LA!). I haven’t watched Nightmare on Elm Street, but I do have written down somewhere what this house was actually used for!
The best location happened next! This school here is the John Marshal High School. Now let me tell you how awesome this school is. It has been used in countless films and TV shows, such as, School of Rock, Nightmare on Elm Street, Hannah Montana, Suite Life of Zac and Cody and much much more.
If that wasn’t enough for you to freak out the playing fields at this school will too! These playing fields are used in the classic musical GREASE! I know! I mean, this is where Summer Loving happened! WHAT?!?!?!?! I completely freaked out at this school and the playing fields (watch the vlog here and you will see!).
Another location we visited was this hotel. It has also been used in multiple productions such as Drive, a Kendrick Lamar music video, Gilmore Girls and much more. I can’t remember the Gilmore Girls scene that this was used in, but hey, its another excuse to watch it again!
The last location of the day was the bridal shop used in Bridesmaids. I find this movie hilarious, so when I saw it, I instantly recognised it!
We got back on the bus and headed back towards Santa Monica for dinner. We ate at this local restaurant called the Flower Child which serve really healthy food, and I actually really enjoyed it! It was nice to have something other than fries!
I obviously vlogged the day, and you can check out that vlog here.
