Brunch at Lakaz Maman | Southampton

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to Lakaz Maman along with Southampton Bloggers for a brunch! I don’t know about you, but I love a good brunch!

Lakaz Maman is a Mauritina Creole world for ‘Mum’s House’. This is a perfect term for this place as there it is so cosy in there. I could totally imagine myself going in there for lunch and sitting in there and having a good catchup with friends in there. They serve really tasty Mauritian street food that is delicious! Before this visit, I had never had Mauritian food before so I didn’t know what to expect.

Lakaz Maman is owned by the lovely Shelina Permalloy. Shelina entered the British TV programme, Master Chef, back in 2012 and went and won the show, which is awesome!

We had to pick our breakfasts before we visited so I had a little look at the menu and scrolled down to the breakfast section. There were lots of different options and I was spoilt for choice. I loved the look of quite a few dishes, but I went with the Breakfast torpedo.

The Breakfast Torpedo consists of turkey bacon, chicken sausages, Mauritian salsa, a breakfast muffin and a fried egg. It is also served with a little hot salsa on the side to tickle your taste buds. Now, let me tell you a little secret… I have never had turkey bacon or chicken sausages, so this was a new concept for me. I took the first bite and I was surprised at how much I loved the chicken sausages. They were delicious. I liked the turkey bacon, but if I had the choice between turkey bacon and normal bacon, I would go with normal. Everything about this was delicious. I loved the Mauritian salsa, the egg was a nice addition and overall, this dish had everything that I love about breakfast in it! My blogging twin Harrison also had the same and we both ate this up as it was that good!

Some of the other bloggers had breakfast eggs, which looked and smelt amazing. I nearly ordered this one and I kind of wish I did as it looked delicious! It was served in a pan (I love it when the plating is creative!) and it consists of poached eggs in a spicy tomato sauce with a warm roti. Looking at the roti, Harrison thought it was like a pancake, however, the people eating it said that it was like a combination of bread and pancake, so that sounds very interesting.

Can we just also briefly mention the Cinnamon toast with coconut and tropical fruits. Normally, I’m not the biggest fan of coconut, but this, I loved. An extra toast was made so we all got to try a little nibble of it, which was great as it was really good! This was topped in salty caramel sauce, which just made the dish!

Thank you to the lovely Kat who took this photo of Harrison and I

I had an amazing time at Lakaz Maman with the Southampton Bloggers. It was great to catchup with these bloggers and talk about blogging and what they do with their blog and all things like that! It was also great to catchup with one of my blogging besties, also known as my twin, Harrison! I hope we get to see each other soon! I had an amazing time and the food was delicious, so you need to go and check it out! A massive thank you to Lakaz Maman and the Southampton Bloggers for an amazing time. Also a massive thank you to Alice for organising it all!
